Dana Montlack On View at Joseph Bellows Gallery
I am thrilled to announce that my work is currently featured in the Summer Selections exhibition at the Joseph Bellows Gallery in La Jolla, California. I am honored to have my pieces shown alongside the incredible works of Chip Hooper, Anthony Friedkin, Oriana Poindexter, and Laszlo Layton.
An opening reception for the exhibition took place on Saturday, July 18. The exhibition is currently running through August 29, 2026, and showcases six pieces from my Phototropic Relicts series.

About the Series: Phototropic Relicts
Phototropic Relicts investigates the resilience of ecosystems by merging the biological instinct to seek light—phototropism—with the concept of the relict, a once-widespread species that persists in reduced numbers.
By layering historical maps, natural history illustrations, and scientific data with photography captured in the field and laboratory, and encasing these images within the borders of 19th-century union cases, I draw a parallel between the preservation of images in early photography and the urgent need to preserve and protect our ecological worlds that often exist beyond our immediate sight.

About Dana Montlack
Dana Montlack is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose layered imagery bridges the worlds of art and science. Her work, centering on environmental systems, has been exhibited globally at venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Whitney Marine Biology Research Center. Dana is an instructor in the Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking program at Georgia State University.
